Clinical Informatics (Certificate)

Clinical Informatics focuses on managing the data and information needed to support the practice and delivery of clinical care. The BJC Center for LifeLong Learning has developed the program in partnership with Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville. The CLL program is designed for clinical BJC employees who are currently in a technology-based position or have interest in moving their careers in that direction.

The 15-week clinical informatics program will start its 3rd cohort on March 29, 2010.  The 2010 Clinical informatics cohort will meet on Mondays from 2:30 – 5:30 pm at the BJC Learning Institute. The 15 weeks of classes will be split into two sets of dates. The first 8 classes will be held from Monday March 29th through Monday, May 17th.  The second set of classes will begin on September 13th and end on October 25th. Employees will participate in both the Spring and Fall set of classes to complete the clinical informatics certificate program.

Employees participating in the Clinical Informatics program will be able to gain a greater understanding of the informatics technologies and technology skills. They will also have the opportunity to interact with colleagues from throughout BJC and learn how various informatics systems are planned and utilized.

BJC employees in nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, respiratory therapy and other clinical disciplines encouraged to consider the clinical informatics program as part of their career growth. New trends in the United States health care industry suggest the combination of clinical and information technology skills will become increasingly critical in the coming years.
